Sometimes it feels like there’s always one small item that slips your mind, whether it’s your wallet, a letter to mail, or a late slip you forgot to include in your tax return. These things happen! If you’re in this situation, don’t worry—you can adjust a previously filed return with the ReFILE feature.

ReFILE is an online tax service that allows you to make updates or corrections to your submitted returns and resubmit them through the tax software you used. ReFILE is a quick and paperless way to adjust your return. Some common reasons to use ReFILE include: * Receiving a late slip (such as an RRSP contribution slip) after filing * Forgetting to report an income source * Missing a deduction or credit Before using ReFILE, make sure you’ve received your notice of assessment (NOA) from the CRA and filed your original return electronically.
ReFILE isn’t available if: Your original return was mailed Your original return hasn’t been assessed You have a reassessment in progress You’re applying for child or family benefits, the disability tax credit, or making other special adjustments
No, ReFILE does not allow changes to personal details like marital status, address, direct deposit info, or email. These changes can be made through CRA My Account, or by contacting them via phone or mail.
If ReFILE isn’t an option, you can use the Change My Return (CMR) service through CRA My Account to make secure online adjustments for returns up to 10 years back. Alternatively, you can mail a T1 adjustment form or signed letter to the CRA with the details of your changes and any required documents. For further details and designated tax centers, visit the CRA websites.
Each return can be revised up to 9 times online. If you exceed this limit, you’ll need to mail a T1 adjustment request.
